Volunteer & Become a VNSA Member

Enjoy reading, organizing, and talking about books?

You are an ideal VNSA volunteer!

Most VNSA members pick up books at drop boxes and other locations, sort books at our warehouse, and serve the organization in other ways as their skills and interests dictate.

WHAT DOES A VNSA VOLUNTEER DO?
It takes a full year of work to collect half a million books, CDs, DVDs, maps, games and puzzles from the public! Our 130+ volunteers:

  • empty drop boxes

  • do home pick-ups in your zip code

  • sort books at our warehouse into 27 categories

  • price and box books

  • work on publicity, planning, and logistics for the annual February sale

How do you join?

It starts with letting us know about your interest! We will follow up with a phone call and invite you to join us for an intro to volunteering at the VNSA warehouse.

Requirements include a $25 annual membership fee and the accrual of 50 points worth of volunteer time each year, equal to around 50 hours of volunteer service.

Please fill out the form below; we will reply shortly.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING WITH VNSA?

  • Feel good. With NO paid staff, VNSA relies on volunteers to make the Book Sale happen! Together, we sell 500,000+ books, media, games and puzzles each February and raise more than $500,000 for human service charities in Phoenix.

  • Shop early. If you've earned 50 membership points in the year, you're invited to shop the VNSA Used Book Sale before the general public.

  • Meet fellow book-lovers! Many of our volunteers have more than 20 years of service with VNSA.
